Dear Goshen Resident,

Welcome to the 2024 Goshen Parks & Recreation Department’s Activity Guide! Our program descriptions again appear in both English and Spanish. This guide covers the entire 2024 calendar year. The park staff and I are happy to offer an invigorating lineup of fun and enriching experiences for all ages and seasons.

The Park Department office moved three years ago to 524 East Jackson Street—at the intersection with South Ninth Street. At 117 South Ninth Street, in the shadow of the new railroad overpass, is the large and creatively constructed East Lincoln Crossroads Sprocket Dog Park, which opened to canine acclaim this past fall. Assisting the East Lincoln neighborhood association were Lacasa, Neighborworks and the Park Department.

We take great pride in offering quality programs and maintaining the best parks, facilities and programs possible. It is our privilege to continue serving the residents of this wonderful community, and we hope visitors to the Maple City see how these resources can enrich their lives too. On behalf of the entire staff, I hope you enjoy this “guided tour” of Goshen’s parks and the many opportunities for recreation, regardless of the season.

Mission Statement

The Goshen Parks & Recreation Department shall provide high-quality and effective recreation programs and special events, facilities and parks that benefit area residents and contribute to Goshen’s economy, environment, wellness and sense of community.

Vision Statement

We are a superior park and recreation department linking the Goshen community to its historical, cultural, natural and human resources in order to enhance the quality of life through the preservation of open space, provision of recreation activities, stewardship of resources, development of trails, parks and facilities, and maintenance of these community resources.

Goals & Objectives

  • To promote Community involvement in the planning and operation of all facets of Park and Recreation Department operations.
  • To allow for orderly growth and development of physical and natural resources.
  • To incorporate within the department and its programs, new technologies and processes that will make activities and services more cost effective.
  • To develop systems of information and guidance to provide for more effective delivery of activities and services.
  • To offer comprehensive, quality recreational programming aimed at satisfying the needs of varying age levels, physical abilities, and special interests. 
  • To maintain and improve the appearance of parks and existing facilities throughout Goshen at a high standard of quality on a systematic and scheduled basis.
  • To utilize the natural characteristics of the land when evaluating the potential for Park and Recreation purposes.
  • To periodically assess and evaluate the recreational needs of the citizens of Goshen. 
  • To make Park and Recreation participation as simple and convenient as possible to clientele and treat patrons like valued customers.
  • To provide efficient and effective direction, coordination, leadership, and quality leisure services throughout Goshen.

Comfort Stations
Most park restroom facilities are open to the public from April 15 to October 15, from dawn to dusk. The restrooms at Abshire Cabin and at the warming house in Shanklin Park, however, remain open year-round.
 

Splash Parks
Walnut Park Splash Pad, on Goshen’s north side at East Oakridge Avenue between Fifth and Sixth streets, Pringle Park Splash Pad on West Lincoln Avenue between Greene Road and Indiana Avenue, and Rieth Park Splash Pad, on Goshen’s south side on 13th Street between Iowa and Illinois streets, will function daily May 25–August 25 from 12 noon to 8 pm (weather permitting).
 

Dedication Program
Donations and dedications of trees, plants, flowers, and park benches and picnic tables are all welcomed for the Goshen parks. Please contact the Goshen Park Department, for more information and current prices, at 534-2901.
 

Adopt-A-Park
Individuals, families, clubs and businesses are encouraged to Adopt-A-Park and help with maintenance, litter pickup and plant preservation. For more information, contact the Goshen Park Department at 534-2901.
 

Vandalism
Vandalism in our parks can be a concern, as well as have a negative impact on our budget. It isn’t possible for us to be in the parks at all times, so a few extra “eyes” to notify us about vandalism is very helpful. Your assistance is greatly appreciated!
