Business Hours:
Normal hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. If you need an officer outside of business hours, a phone is located inside the outer doors of the Police/Courts Building on East Jefferson. This phone is connected to the county dispatch center. An officer will be contacted to assist you.

2008 Police Department Hiring Pool The Goshen Police Department will begin its 2008 hiring pool for full time Patrol Officers and Reserve Patrol Officers on January 2, 2008.
Patrol officer applicants must be at least 21 years old and less than 36 years old. Reserve Officer applicants must be 21 years of age.
Applications are only available at the front desk of the Goshen Police Department, 111 East Jefferson St., Goshen, IN, between Wednesday January 2, 2008 and Friday January 25, 2008, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
All applicants must be U.S. citizens, possess a valid driver’s license, and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Completed applications must be returned to the Goshen Police Department no later than Friday, February 1, 2008 by 4:00 pm. |

The Goshen Police Department was established in 1868 with the appointment of the first marshal, H.C. Hale. The first Chief of Police was Edgar J. Vesey hired in 1914. The police officers did not carry portable radios until the 1970s. The use of computers in the department began in the 1980s.
Currently, the department has a total of 62 members, consisting of 55 officers and 7 civilians. The department also has two K-9 units.

The Goshen Police Department offers various services that benefit the residents of Goshen.
The Citizens’ Academy promotes an understanding between the residents of Goshen and the police officers. The Academy helps to educate citizens about topics such as crime prevention, firearms, and traffic enforcement. For more information on these programs please contact the Police Department at 533-8661.
Noise Ordinance Goshen has an ordinance regulating noise. Loud mufflers, barking dogs, and loud radios may be found to be in violation of the ordinance. Please keep noise to a minimum.
Curfew for Minors Goshen has a curfew for persons under the age of 18. The curfew is 11:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 1:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Speakers Bureau If your community group or organization would like to have someone from the Goshen Police Department speak about a certain topic, please contact the Police Department and they will select a qualified individual to speak to your group.
Police Reserve Program Reserves are unpaid volunteers who are assigned to special activities, such as local high school events. To find out how to become a Reserve, call 533-8661.
D.A.R.E. The Goshen Police Department sponsors the Drug Abuse and Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program in all Goshen elementary schools, both public and private. The program is also offered at the Goshen Middle School.

The Police Department wishes to acknowledge the loss of Patrolman, Tom Goodwin.
Officer Goodwin, an eight year veteran of the police department, was killed in the line of duty on December 11, 1998.
In the spring of 1999 Tommy's Kids Castle playground was dedicated in honor of Officer Goodwin. A team of 1800 volunteers headed by Kiwanis constructed the playground in three days. Donations from local businesses paid for the materials needed for the construction. |
