Stormwater Studies

Stormwater drainage studies evaluate drainage concerns in depth and lay the foundation for future stormwater improvements.  Newer subdivisions and commercial developments (post-1990) will have independent drainage plans that demonstrate how a development’s drainage will be controlled.  Older subdivisions and older commercial developments (pre-1990), and properties located outside of a subdivision most likely have no drainage plan in place.  For these properties, drainage concerns are handled on a case by case basis.  Presently, the City does not have a comprehensive citywide stormwater master plan. Stormwater studies on file in the Goshen Engineering Department that can be reviewed upon request are:

1.   Century Drive Drainage System Capacity Study, 2005

  • Evaluates the capacity of the existing storm pipes and identifies what, if any, site development water can be directed to the public stormwater system.

2.   Goshen Industrial Park Stormwater Study, 2006

  • Evaluates the past flooding within the industrial park and provides recommendations to increase stormwater storage along with other improvements.

3.   Crescent Street Stormwater Study, 2008

  • Provided for the sizing for the Crescent Street roadway reconstruction while also allowing for future stormwater improvements on Seventh Street north of Crescent Street.

4.   Wilson Avenue Drainage Study, 2009

  • Evaluated the pipe sizing necessary to collect stormwater from Wilson Avenue between S.R. 119 and Lafayette Street and between the Mill Race Canal and S.R. 15.

5.   Chicago & Indiana Drainage Study, 2011

  • Evaluated the stormwater outfall pipe size for Chicago Avenue at Indiana Avenue. The service area extends south to Wilkinson and west to Riverside Boulevard.

6.   West Goshen Stormwater Study, 1981 & 2011

  • West Goshen has been plagued with flooding for years. Improvements have been made, but never to the level identified in the 1981 study. An updated study was completed in 2011, that staff is currently referencing as a guide for future drainage improvement projects.

7.   Former Western Rubber “Genesis” Drainage Study, 2014

  • The former Western Rubber facility located at Tenth Street and Plymouth Avenue, is being marketed as a redevelopment parcel. A study was performed by City of Goshen engineering staff to determine if there are offsite stormwater management options available that would allow full utilization of the property.
